ABOUT CASSIQUE: Named for the Kiawah Indian chiefs who once hunted the Lowcountry, Cassique’s 7,050- yard test ranges through maritime forests and along marshes where the Kiawah River meets the Atlantic Ocean. Since its opening in 2000, the Tom Watson-designed course has garnered numerous accolades and showcases the dramatic flare that has punctuated Watson’s playing career.
THE CAUSE: The Gavalas Kolanko Foundation (GKF) was established by Nicholas B. Gavalas and Dr. Ronald Kolanko in 1999. The GKF assists students with physical disabilities with their secondary educational costs, and increases support and awareness of their needs. Since its inception, the GKF has awarded 115 scholarships for more than $700,000 to Lowcountry students attending the College of Charleston, Charleston Southern University, the Citadel, Trident Technical College, the Medical University of the South (MUSC), and the Art Institute of Charleston. Proceeds from the golf tournament will directly fund future scholarships.
